چکیده

We describe a facial feature tracker based on the combined range and amplitude data provided by a 3D time-of-flight camera. We use this tracker to implement a head mouse, an alternative input device for people who have limited use of their hands. The facial feature tracker is based on geometric features that are related to the intrinsic dimensionality of multidimensional signals. We show how the position of the nose in the image can be determined robustly using a very simple bounding-box classifier, trained on a set of labelled sample images. Despite its simplicity, the classifier generalizes well to subjects that it was not trained on. An important result is that the combination of range and amplitude data dramatically improves robustness compared to a single type of data. The tracker runs in real time at around 30 frames per second. We demonstrate its potential as an input device by using it to control Dasher, an alternative text input tool.

Tracking of Facial Feature Points by Combining Singular Tracking Results with a 3D Active Shape Model

Accurate 3D tracking of facial feature points from one monocular video sequence is appealing for many applications in human-machine interaction. In this work facial feature points are tracked with a Kanade-LucasTomasi (KLT) feature tracker and the tracking results are linked with a 3D Active Shape Model (ASM). Thus, the efficient Gauss-Newton method is not solving for the shift of each facial f...

Robust, Real-Time 3D Face Tracking from a Monocular View

This paper addresses the problem of 3D face tracking from a monocular view. Dominant tracking algorithms in current literature can be classified as intensity-based or feature-based methods. Intensity-based methods track 3D faces based on the brightness constraint, assuming constant intensity of the face across adjacent frames. Feature-based trackers use local 2D features to determine sparse pai...

Hybridization of Facial Features and Use of Multi Modal Information for 3D Face Recognition

Despite of achieving good performance in controlled environment, the conventional 3D face recognition systems still encounter problems in handling the large variations in lighting conditions, facial expression and head pose The humans use the hybrid approach to recognize faces and therefore in this proposed method the human face recognition ability is incorporated by combining global and local ...

Learning Depth Calibration of Time-of-Flight Cameras

We present a novel method for an automatic calibration of modern consumer Timeof-Flight (ToF) cameras. Usually, these sensors come equipped with an integrated color camera. Albeit they deliver acquisitions at high frame rates they usually suffer from incorrect calibration and low accuracy due to multiple error sources. Using information from both cameras together with a simple planar target, we...

Facial Expression Recognition for HCI Applications

Facial expression plays an important role in cognition of human emotions (Fasel, 2003 & Yeasin, 2006). The recognition of facial expressions in image sequences with significant head movement is a challenging problem. It is required by many applications such as human-computer interaction and computer graphics animation (Cañamero, 2005 & Picard, 2001). To classify expressions in still images many...
